Netflix Unveils Sprawling Indian Slate of 40 Films and Series

Venice Film Festival
At a gala event in Mumbai, hosted by execs Monika Shergill and Srishti Behl Arya, the streamer signals that it is more than doubling down on the fast-growing market amid rising competition in Asia.
Netflix has unveiled an enormous slate of 40 film and TV titles targeting the fast-growing Indian streaming market at a gala event held Wednesday in Mumbai.
Dubbed "See What’s Next India 2021," the gathering was hosted by Netflix's top two executives in the country, Monika Shergill, vp of content for Netflix India, and Srishti Behl Arya, director of international original film. The duo took turns introducing the several dozen projects, including films, series and documentaries.

"Our upcoming lineup features more variety and diversity than we have seen before," said Shergill. "From the biggest films and series, to gripping documentaries and reality, and bold comedy formats, we are taking our next big leap in India to bring you more than 40 powerful and irresistible stories from all corners of the country."
The slate sees Netflix teaming with a who's who of powerhouse Indian production entities, including Reliance Entertainment, Viacom18 Studios, T-Series, Endemol Shine India, Emmay Entertainment, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment.
Some of the projects in the lineup were previously known — such as Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple (produced by Alfonso Carol) and Ivan Ayr’s Milestone — but most are new. (The complete list of titles is below)

Feature films run the gamut from romantic dramas (Bulbul Tarang, produced by Reliance) to family drama (Sardar Ka Grandson, made by T-Series and Emmay), murder mystery (Haseen Dillruba), sports-based romcom (Jaadugar), gangster flicks (Jagame Thandhiram), anthology films (Ajeeb Daastaans), and more.
On the documentary front, highlights include Searching For Sheela, which pursues the story of Ma Anand Sheela, widely known from Netflix's hit doc series Wild Wild Country.
