According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nollywood produced 416 films in the first quarter of 2021 (first quarter of 2021), compared to 903 in the fourth quarter of 2020.
NBS states this in “Nollywood Movies Production Data-Q2 2017-Q1 2021” published on its website in Abuja on Friday.
The agency didn’t reveal the reason for the sharp drop, but said the decline showed a quarterly decline of 53.93 percent.
He added that the number of movies produced in the first quarter of 2020 was 407, showing a 2.21 percent increase over the previous year.
NBS added that Lagos had the highest number of films produced on location in the first quarter of 2021, 149, followed by onitsha with 140.
However, Benin and Bauchi each recorded the least in two films.
He added that the data was provided by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and validated and validated by NBS.
