On Sunday, 57,875 people attended the fair. That was the second highest attendance so far this year. Saturday’s attendance of 64,867 remains the largest this year. Geddes, N.Y. — Attendance at the New York State Fair has remained lower than usual this year, but it climbed slightly this weekend.
The final weekend of the fair has typically seen the largest attendance numbers. However, the total number of people who attended this weekend (Saturday and Sunday combined was 122,742) was still lower than the 147,749 people who walked through the fairground gates the last Saturday in 2019 — the most of any day ever.
Monday is the last day of this year’s 18-day fair, the longest New York State Fair ever to be held, according to fair organizers.
Fairgoers can enjoy $1 rides at the Wade Shows Midway on Monday.
There also will be musical performances by Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett and her band The Blackhearts at 1 p.m. and Cheap Trick at 6 p.m. on the Chevy Park stage; Syracuse’s The Ripcords plays at noon at Chevy Court; and the Journey tribute band Resurrection is set to take the stage at 4 p.m. at Chevy Court.
The Rooster Crowing Championship is set for 3 p.m. Monday in the Poultry Barn. A tournament-style, wheelchair basketball game is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. on the court outside the Toyota Coliseum.
There also will be fireworks at night.
“This fair opened with fireworks and will end with fireworks,” fair organizers said in a news release.
The fireworks show starts at 8 p.m. in the skies over the Fairgrounds.
“We will bid farewell to Fair #172 in our 180th year,” the release said.
